GAMESS-UK is freely available to U.K. academics, although there will be an associated cost for users outside the U.K. or in industry (although a free demo version of the serial code is available for all users for Linux, MacOSX and Windows operating systems ).

The programme is available from CFS under a number of different licences:

  • Serial licence: This provides a serial GAMESS-UK binary for the system(s) specified in the licence, pdf and html copies of the manual and access to software support and updates for three years.
  • Parallel Licence: This provides a licence to run GAMESS-UK on a parallel machine. In many cases it will be necessary to supply the source code for the program, together with a Makefile for building the binary for the system specified in the licence with the compiler(s) supported for that platform. The licence also provides pdf and html copies of the manual and access to software support and updates for three years.
  • Joint Software Development Licence (JSDL) This provides the source code for GAMESS-UK together with the relevant Makefiles for all of the supported serial and parallel platforms, pdf and html copies of the manual and access to software support and updates for three years.

The JSDL should be should be regarded as a collaboration with Computing For Science (CFS) and is envisaged for situations where the licencee wishes to incorporate new functionality into the code and/or to port GAMESS-UK to new platforms.

  • Site-wide Licence:This provides the source code for GAMESS-UK together with the relevant Makefiles for all of the supported serial and parallel platforms, pdf and html copies of the manual and access to software support and updates for three years.

This licence is for facilties ( e.g. universities ) that wish to install GAMESS-UK on a number of different serial and/or parallel platforms for use by a number of different users.

  • Industrial Licence: the licence for users in industry.
  • Demo Licence: currently only available for the Linux, Macintosh OSX and Windows, this provides a free binary for users to try out the GAMESS-UK code to determine if it will be suitable for their purposes. The binary incorporates the full functionality of GAMESS-UK but is restricted to 200 basis functions.
